💰 OpenAI Startup Fund has raised $175 million for its main fund and secured an additional $114 million through five special purpose vehicles since 2021.
The fund, which is not financed by OpenAI's corporate money but rather outside investors including Microsoft, has invested in over a dozen startups across AI, robotics, healthcare, and education.
Notable investments include Figure AI (valued at $2.6 billion), Harvey AI (valued at $3 billion), and Speak (valued at $1 billion), with several companies raising subsequent rounds after initial OpenAI fund investment.
The portfolio shows strategic focus on humanoid robotics (1X, Figure AI), AI-powered healthcare solutions (Ambience Healthcare, Chai Discovery), and productivity tools (Descript, Mem), though not all investments succeeded, as Ghost Autonomy shut down a year after receiving $5 million.
